Free homeschool planner and record keeper
Plan the week, log what each child actually did, and keep a running record of school days and hours by subject. Print a weekly plan or a year summary for your portfolio. No account: it's saved in this browser, with a backup file you control.
Set up
Rules differ a lot between US states and between countries. Some US states ask for a number of days (often around 180), some for hours, and some for no set amount. Check your own state or local authority. This tool helps you keep records; it doesn't decide what counts.

How to use it
- Sunday: write the week's plan in the grid, one line per subject per day. It's a plan, not a contract.
- Each day: log what actually happened, with minutes. A museum visit, baking, or a long conversation about the news can count. Your rules decide.
- Any time: the summary shows school days logged (any day with at least one entry), hours per subject and per learner, and progress to your targets.
- End of term or year: print the year summary and the CSV log for your portfolio or evaluator.
What makes a good homeschool record?
Evaluators and local authorities generally look for evidence of a broad, regular education: dates, subjects, what was used or done, and samples of work. A short daily line ("Read ch. 4 of Holes, narrated it back") beats a beautiful plan you never filled in. Keep work samples separately; this log tells the story around them.
Older learners and AI
If your teens use AI for schoolwork, agree house rules first. The free AI house rules generator has a homeschool preset, and the homeschool AI tutor guide covers a weekly rhythm that keeps the thinking theirs. More free tools: learn.askpoppy.ai.
For the subjects you don't teach yourself: Ask Poppy is an AI tutor you talk or type to. It asks what you already know and gives one hint at a time instead of handing you the answer, and it remembers where you left off. Free for 30 messages a day; unlimited use is optional ($3.99/week or $9.99/month in the US store). Like any AI, it can make mistakes.
Free, 30 messages a day ยท iPhone, iPad and Mac. (Disclosure: this free tool is made by the Ask Poppy team.)
Questions
How do I keep homeschool records?
Log each day briefly: date, learner, subject, time and what you did or used. Keep work samples separately. Totals of days and hours by subject build up automatically here.
How many days do homeschoolers need?
It depends on where you live. Some US states require a number of days (often around 180), some require hours, and some have no set amount. Check your own state or local authority.
Is my data private?
Everything is saved in this browser on this device, not on our servers. Download a backup file regularly, because clearing browser data deletes it.
Can I print it?
Yes. Print the weekly plan, or print the year summary for a portfolio or evaluator. You can also export the full log as a CSV spreadsheet.
